The 6-speed SelectShift® Automatic Transmission has wide-ratio gearing designed for responsive low-end performance and high-end efficiency. The selectable tow/haul mode improves performance when towing or hauling heavy loads, compensating for grade and load and reduces gear hunting, improving power delivery. The SelectShift feature has two driver-initiated modes: Full Manual mode gives you full control to shift through the gears up and down the gearbox; Progressive Range Select limits the range of gears while in Drive to lock out overdrive for consistent speed over hilly terrain.

The Expedition offers an available power liftgate. A push of the button on your key fob or inside the cabin (on the instrument panel or in the cargo area) conveniently opens or closes it, allowing you to easily load groceries, luggage or anything else. If you need really quick access to the cargo area, you can manually open just the liftgate glass.
If you need to tow a large boat or camper-trailer, the standard 3.5L EcoBoost® engine delivers 365 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torque, giving the Expedition a maximum 9,200-lb. towing capacity when equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Tow Package. Expedition features standard Trailer Sway Control working in conjunction with AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™). When trailer sway is detected, the system takes measures, such as applying precise vehicle braking or reduced engine torque, to help bring both vehicle and trailer under control.39
Expedition offers the available BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert.10 BLIS® uses sensors in the rear quarter panels to alert you to a vehicle in a blind spot with a warning light in the appropriate sideview mirror. Cross-Traffic Alert can signal you when a vehicle is crossing behind from up to 15 yards away while you’re slowly backing out of a parking spot or your driveway.
