EcoBoost® Engines
The 2018 Fusion has three EcoBoost engines to choose from: the 1.5L with standard Auto Start-Stop Technology; the 2.0L; and, for the Fusion V6 Sport, the 2.7L V6. All combine three technologies – turbocharging, direct injection and twin independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) – to enhance performance and efficiency. Each engine provides direct fuel injection, piston cooling jets for durability and paddle shifters.
Ride and Handling
Standard is a 6-speed automatic transmission that comes with available steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. Also standard is a European-inspired independent MacPherson strut-type suspension with a stabilizer bar to help reduce road noise, vibration and body roll when cornering. There’s also electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) with pull-drift compensation to help correct for road irregularities and to improve overall steering feel, especially when driving on crowned roads or in heavy crosswinds. Also, continuously controlled damping is a Ford exclusive on V6 Sport and delivers tight cornering and a smooth ride.
Intelligent All-Wheel Drive (AWD)
Intelligent AWD sensors balance torque between the front and rear wheels to enhance handling and maximize traction, typically before wheelslip can occur. AWD is available on SE, Titanium and Platinum* and standard on V6 Sport with the 2.7L EcoBoost® engine. Not available on the Fusion Hybrid and the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid.

Auto Start-Stop Technology
You can help reduce vehicle emissions with available Auto Start-Stop Technology. When the vehicle comes to a stop in city driving, the engine is automatically shut off. The air conditioning and radio stay on, keeping you comfortable. The engine seamlessly restarts when your foot leaves the brake pedal. Standard on the 1.5L EcoBoost® engine.*
*If stop is longer than three seconds, driver must tap accelerator pedal or push resume button to start the vehicle moving again.
SmartGauge® with EcoGuide
The dual LCD SmartGauge with EcoGuide provides real-time information to help you enhance the efficiency of your Fusion Hybrid or Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid.
MyView lets you customize screens. Configurable screens such as Brake Coach help you maximize your vehicle’s efficiency. Left-side display screens include Engage and Empower modes.
In Engage, you’ll see separate gauges for engine power and lithium-ion battery power. In Empower, which includes all the information in Engage, you’ll also see how close you are to the gasoline engine on/off threshold and the amount of power being requested based on how far you’re depressing the accelerator pedal.

Pre-Collision Assist
Take smart on the road with the available Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection. If the system’s sensors detect a potential collision with a car or pedestrian in front of you, a warning flashes on the windshield and an alert sounds. Also, the brakes will precharge and increase brake-assist sensitivity to provide full responsiveness when you do brake. If the driver does not take corrective action and collision is imminent, brakes can apply automatically.* Available on SE, Titanium and V6 Sport, and standard on Platinum.
*Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection can detect pedestrians, but not in all conditions and does not replace safe driving. See owner’s manual for system limitations.
Inflatable Rear Safety Belts
The Fusion is the first vehicle in its class* to offer available inflatable rear safety belts. These available rear outboard safety belts are designed to hold the passenger in the appropriate seating position and can help distribute crash-force energy across more of the torso area than traditional belts. Inflatable belts can help reduce the risk of injury, while providing support to the head and neck. These safety belts are compatible with many infant and child-safety booster seats.
